Accessibility statement

Our standard

shelfcook.app is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Every new page is checked against that standard before it ships, with a target of zero automated violations.

What that means on this site

• Every page works with a keyboard alone. The first Tab press reveals a skip link to the main content, and every link, button, form field, and expandable section shows a clear focus ring.
• Pages use real headings (one h1 per page), landmarks, lists, and tables so screen readers can navigate by structure. The mobile menu announces whether it is open and closes with Escape.
• Text and controls meet at least a 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio in both the light and the dark theme. The theme follows your system setting; a toggle in the header overrides it.
• You can zoom to 400 percent or use a large text setting without losing content or needing to scroll sideways. Nothing on the site locks zoom.
• Animations and smooth scrolling are turned off automatically when your system asks for reduced motion. Borders and secondary text get stronger when your system asks for more contrast.
• Images that carry meaning have descriptive alternative text. Decorative panels are hidden from assistive technology.
• Forms label every field, mark required fields in text, and announce success or error messages through a live region.
• The site is readable without JavaScript: every page is rendered on the server with real headings and text.

How we test

We run automated checks with the axe-core engine and Lighthouse on the home, pricing, and privacy pages before each release, and test by hand with keyboard-only navigation in current versions of Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. Screen reader passes with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS are part of the release checklist.

The app

The Shelfcook app for iOS and Android is built to the same standard: VoiceOver and TalkBack labels on every control, Dynamic Type up to 200 percent, 44-point touch targets, reduced motion respected, and a screen-reader pass on the scan, cook now, recipe step, and grocery list screens before every store build. We will update this page with the app's conformance status when the first store build ships.

Known limitations

• Recipe cards without a real photo use a colored cuisine tile plus the dish name; the tile itself is decorative and carries no information beyond the name.
• Third-party pages we link to (the app stores) have their own accessibility practices.
